Halloween 2020 is an eerie thing

Stay home. Stay safe. Practice social distancing.

Who would have thought back in 1975 this would be an issue, that the entire world would be in a Pandemic in 2020?

It is sad that some members of society are behaving like children, rebelling against the advice from public health professionals and local politicians.

Just grow the puck up.

Your trick or treat activities will have to be toned down.

You will have to find other ways to exercise rather than go to a sweaty gym.

You will have the opportunity to cook at home and learn new recipes rather than visit a restaurant.

It's a harsh reality but we can get through this if everyone cooperates without succumbing to the conspiracy theories of anarchists and anti-maskers.

Permit me to help you reminisce with an excerpt from The Year of the Rabbit, when Sera got to dress up as a witch and go trick or treating with her BFF Violet.

Stay safe but still have fun, kids.

Grow the puck up, selfish, irresponsible adults.

Another Halloween in Canada

Halloween will soon be upon us. I hope there won't be many creepy clowns lurking about and spooking the sensitive souls.

As a kid from Canada, I can relate to the costume/snowsuit imagery shared by good ole CBC.

As a chocolate-loving adult, I am enjoying that variety box of small chocolate bars we bought last week. We don't entertain trick or treaters in our building but I make a point of sharing the treats with family, friends and book shop patrons.

Anyway, here's an attempt to lure you to an excerpt about Halloween night in The Year of the Rabbit.

Halloween omens

Pay no attention to that asteroid coming very close to us on Halloween.

With any luck in Eastern Ontario, it will still be cloudy, rainy and all superstitious parties will be oblivious to the ominous event anyway.

For Sera Fletcher, Halloween used to be an enjoyable celebration for dressing up and knocking on doors for candy. Unfortunately, 1974 was the year she lost a friend.

Have a safe and happy Halloween

Here's wishing all the kids big and small a happy Halloween.

Most of us have fun memories of the "night of dressing up for free candy". Most parents I know support their kids in making it a night of spooky thrills.

There are fiction writers who offer creepy, scary stories to make your hair stand up.  I just want to make you cry. That's right.  Here is an excerpt from the novel about the night Sera Fletcher's friend was spirited away.

Thanks for stopping by.  Stay safe, warm and dry.

Missing since Halloween

A Seguin Sound man posts a request in the local newspaper, looking for his wife and daughter.

Thing is... they don't want to be found.  Find out why in this excerpt.

This becomes a traumatic experience for Sera Fletcher who will spend the subsequent months missing her friend and sinking into depression

She finds joy when her illegitimate nephew is born.  Then she ponders life and death while realizing her mother will not survive the cancer that is consuming her once beautiful body.

See more Seguin Sounder clippings.  Read more excerpts.
